— FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —
MILWAUKEE 1/28/04 – The Wine Brats have been organized as a nonprofit group, to go into the trenches to fight against the cultural barriers that have been built up around wine. Now we have a chapter starting in Milwaukee and we wanted to let you know. Allow us to give you a quick background on the Wine Brats.
With 30 chapters and 20,000 plus members nationally, the Wine Brats like to meet new people, share bottles of wine and raise funds for local charities. It’s easy to join as a member (FREE) just sign-up online by completing the member survey at http://www.winebrats.org.
Our representatives and enthusiasts of wine are usually between the ages of 21 to 36, which accounts for a small percentage of total wine consumption in the United States. The Wine Brats believe this directly relates to price and the intimidation factor that wine can represent. The first timer or occasional buyer who wanders through the wine department of a store is faced with hundreds of brands, with little or no explanation of what he or she is buying. Restaurant lists tend to be over-priced and just as confusing.
These financial and cultural barriers, whether perceived or real, must be removed to introduce a new generation of adults to the enjoyment of wine as an everyday beverage. The Wine Brats are in the unique position to present wine to our peers in an accessible and unpretentious manner. We are a highly visible organization known for educating our own generation about the wonders of life with wine.
Wine Brats is backed by an impressive list of national wine sponsors including Robert Mondavi, Rosemont Estate, Penfolds, Lindemans, Woodbridge, Jacob’s Creek, Korbel, and Food and Wine magazine among many others. Local sponsorship opportunities are also available, please contact your local chapter if interested.
