Interactive graphics system takes center stage in the network’s election coverage

New York, N.Y., [November 5, 2004] – WCInteractive, provider of state-of-the-art interactive broadcast solutions and a division of Weather Central Inc., today announced that ScreenWRITER played a starring role in ABC News coverage of the 2004 election this week. The interactive graphics system was the technological centerpiece on the anchor desk beside anchor Peter Jennings. With Jennings at the controls on his desktop, ScreenWRITER graphics filled the giant screen behind the anchor desk, dynamically changing maps and electoral vote totals the moment the network called a state for either candidate. The interactivity also allowed Jennings to show viewers different scenarios regarding the outcome in battleground states and the effects these scenarios might have on the final results.

“ScreenWRITER is a wonderful information tool,” said Peter Jennings, Anchor and Senior Editor of ABC World News Tonight, “I enjoyed traveling America at the touch of a finger.”

“ScreenWRITER empowered Peter Jennings to show viewers exactly how the election returns were affecting each candidate in the Electoral College,” said Andrew Welch, WCInteractive Director. Welch adds, “Viewers may recall the coverage of the 2000 election featured anchors, reporters, and analysts using notepads and whiteboards as props. ScreenWRITER provides the flexibility of the notepad and whiteboard with the graphic quality of network television.”

ScreenWRITERTM and its companion product SportsWRITER®, are the most used interactive storytelling tools in the world. Users include ABC, ESPN, Fox News, NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, CBS Sports, BBC, NHK (Japan), and television stations in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
