MADISON – Gov. Jim Doyle today announced that 17 Wisconsin communities would receive more than $6.8 million in awards from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program administered by the Department of Commerce (Commerce).
“My Grow Wisconsin initiative calls for improving housing conditions in order to meet the needs of Wisconsin families,” said Gov. Doyle. “These communities will use the funds to help low- and moderate-income (LMI) households repair their housing units and purchase homes.”
Each of the communities will use the funds to rehabilitate LMI owner- and renter-occupied units. The funds will also be used to assist LMI renter households with downpayment and closing costs to purchase a home.
The CDBG program provides grants to general purpose units of local government for housing programs that principally benefit LMI households. CDBG funds are used for various housing and neighborhood revitalization activities including housing rehabilitation, acquisition, relocation, demolition of dilapidated structures, and handicap accessibility improvements.
