Madison, Wis. (February 14, 2017) – Laura Meinders, a junior Theatre Arts major from Marshfield, Wis., was honored in January with a prestigious award from the 2017 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) for her work on Clue: The Musical specialty props. This year’s festival was held in Indianapolis, Ind.

Ms. Meinders won the Society of Properties Artisan Managers Award for her stunning work produced for Clue: The Musical, presented in the Diane Ballweg Theatre during the Spring 2016 Semester.

This year’s honor marks the third consecutive year a student from Edgewood College has been honored for their work in Theatre Arts. Last year, Mark Kennedy ’16 garnered three awards for his work on Woods of Weaver, and in 2015 Stacey Garbarski ‘15 and her scene partner Leigha Sander ‘17 won the Irene Ryan Dramatist Guild Award for Excellence in a Performance from a New Play or Musical.

Each year the Theatre Arts Department sends students to present at this conference in all areas of theatre, including acting, stage management, sound design, props, and costumes. This year Christopher Hansen, Shelly Sarauer, Clarice Lafayette, Carsyn Soderstrom, and Patrick Mahoney competed in the nationally recognized Irene Ryan Acting Competition, and Vivian Washington competed in the regional Stage Management Competition.

Assistant Professor Christopher Dunham worked closely with Ms. Meinders on the creation of her award-winning work, and Adjunct Instructor Audrey Wax served as the festival group organizer, acting coach, and presentation coach.
