Rain Garden Grant Program Now Available
Waukesha, WI – In partnership with the Graham Martin Foundation, the Waukesha County Department of Parks and Land Use is able to offer native plants for rain gardens at half off the normal retail price. Native plants, including Purple Coneflower and Black-eyed Susans, that normally retail for $3.60 will be available for $1.80 per two inch potted plant.
A rain garden is a sunken garden with a flat bottom that collects water from a downspout and other sources, which helps soak runoff into the soil. Runoff is water that runs off roof-tops, roads and even lawns that carries a variety of pollutants like fertilizers, pet waste and oil into our local rivers and streams. Rain gardens prevent runoff, the major source of water pollution, from reaching our local rivers and lakes.
