New North, Inc.: Releases midyear ‘New North Report to the Community’ 2012 7/17/2012 Contact: Jeff Blumb Mobile: 920.328.5454 Email: blumb@nationconsulting.com NEW NORTH, July 17, 2012 – The newest edition of the Midyear New North Report to the Community 2012 is now out, and it confirms what local leaders already know: New North, Inc. and the New North region continue to make progress, even in times of significant economic challenge. “Our new report highlights a number of key indicators that confirm the New North region is the place to do business,” says Jerry Murphy, executive director of New North, Inc. “Our job numbers are up, unemployment numbers are down and our proactive, collective efforts are bringing venture capital funding into the region.” Among the items found in this year’s report: * Unemployment throughout the 18-county New North region is 1.8 percent lower than the national average. * Venture capital traffic is up in the New North, with nine venture capital deals investing more than $4 billion in the region. * Twelve significant job-creating and job-sustaining projects have been announced since January 2012. * SBA lending has increased 188 percent from 2010 through 2012 in the New North. “It’s notable that in a severe recession, the New North region has bucked national trends in a number of areas, from job growth to personal income growth,” says Murphy. The annual report is published by Insight Publications of Appleton, and is a collaborative effort from the New North’s key stakeholders, including business and industry leaders, municipal and tribal governmental entities, economic development experts and educational leaders. “This year, we’re also rolling out a new dashboard that allows us to measure and track the metrics of economic activity throughout the region,” says Murphy. “This provides the region with even more useful data, allowing us to see which geographic locations, industries and developments are on the radar as business leaders look at New North opportunities.” A free, digital copy of the Midyear New North Report to the Community 2012 can be accessed here.
