Dept. of Financial Institutions: New business formation up 12.2% in first quarter 4/9/2012 Contact: George Althoff, communications director, 608-261-4504 MADISON – The number of new businesses formed in Wisconsin in the first quarter increased by 12.2% compared to the same period in 2011, according to data released today by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI). New business formation totaled 9,821 in the first quarter, compared to 8,752 in 2011. March showed a 4.3% improvement over 2011, the 10th time in the past 12 months that new business formation has increased over the previous year. The business formation data is compiled by DFI’s Division of Corporate and Consumer Services, which is the filing office for the creation of business entities in the state.
