MADISON- University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics is one of two academic medical centers in the U.S. that has been recognized for providing high-value patient care through a model purchasing and supply-inventory system.
This is the fourth consecutive year that UHC has recognized UW Hospital and Clinics for excellence in supply-chain management.
UW Hospital and Clinics received the 2011 Supply Chain Performance Excellence Award at the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) annual conference in Chicago. UHC, an alliance of the nation’s 114 nonprofit academic medical centers, is focused on world-class patient care through excellence in quality, safety and cost effectiveness. Supply-chain management encompasses all aspects of acquiring supplies and products from contracting to inventory to delivery to the patient. Cost-effectiveness, innovation and performance are considered at every level of the chain.
“The public and the business community expect high-quality health care to be delivered as efficiently as possible,” said Donna Katen-Bahensky, hospital CEO and president. “This award recognizes the efforts of many people to achieve both goals.”
UHC recognized UW Hospital and Clinics and Wake Forest Baptist Health in five areas:

* Focus on distribution and utilization processes
* Long-term commitment to continuous improvement.
