The Business Journal Serving Greater Milwaukee Central City Business Awards to honor area firms, individuals. The Business Journal Serving Greater Milwaukee is seeking nominations through Jan. 21 for its 2011 Central City Business Awards that recognize entrepreneurs and commercial enterprises whose contributions toward growth, expansion and prosperity are making a difference in Milwaukee’s central city and others across the region.
The awards program, formerly known as the Inner City Business Awards, was run in previous years by the Greater Milwaukee Committee.
To be eligible for the award, a company can be either a private enterprise or publicly traded; must be a commercial enterprise, and not a nonprofit; must have been in business for at least two years; and should be based in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Walworth, Washington, Ozaukee, Racine or Kenosha counties.
Categories include: Trailblazer, which recognizes companies that are committed to supporting central city-based growth businesses, or those located within areas of high minority population; Large, Medium or Small Companies, which honors contributions to growth and prosperity in a central city area, or within an area of high minority population; and Individuals, recognizing entrepreneurship and contributions to growth in central city areas.
Winners will be selected based on information provided through the nomination process, with judging conducted by an independent panel led by Business Journal editor Mark Kass. Each winner will be featured in a special section in the March 11 issue of The Business Journal and honored at an awards luncheon March 14 at The Pfister in downtown Milwaukee.
