MADISON – Today, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) authorized a 2.5 percent decrease in gas rates and a less than 1.0 percent increase in electric rates for Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPSC) customers in 2011. The result of the PSC decision reflects a $1.60 monthly rate decrease overall.

Average WPSC monthly natural gas customers should expect a decrease of $2.20 per month on their gas bill and electric customers using 600 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month can expect an increase of approximately $.60 on their monthly electric bills, on average.

When a utility requests a change in rates, the PSC conducts a thorough audit of the utility’s expenses and revenues. To prepare for today’s decision, the Commission considered the amount WPSC needed to provide a reliable source of energy to customers, which can include costs of fuel, maintenance, new construction and environmental protection.
