UW-Milwaukee: Wisconsin Idea forum looks at ranking freshwater priorities Nov. 12

MILWAUKEE – With so many aspects of freshwater management critical to sustaining the state’s resource, how do policymakers sort out which priority comes first?

Explore how today’s scientific research in freshwater can lead to tomorrow’s management game plan at the fourth annual Wisconsin Idea Forum held at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s (UWM’s) downtown School of Continuing Education, 161 W. Wisconsin Ave., Suite 6000, on Nov. 12.

In this daylong event, “Today’s Research Frontiers, Tomorrow’s Water Policy,” participants will be asked to identify and rank issues they see as necessary for effective and sustainable use of our water resources. Individual panels will examine aspects such as emerging contaminants, ecology and biodiversity, climate impacts, aging infrastructures and groundwater.

The outcome of this forum, hosted by UWM’s School of Freshwater Sciences and the University of Wisconsin System, holds importance far beyond Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Idea Forums are designed to focus University of Wisconsin System resources on Wisconsin’s most vexing social, environmental and economic challenges. These forums inform the debate around current issues by bringing objective, research-based information to the dialogue.
