NEW NORTH, August 13, 2010 – Lawrence University was ranked 50th in the nation on the third annual list of “America’s Best Colleges,” compiled by Forbes.

The school was the top ranked college in Wisconsin, and the only state school to make the Top 100.

“Lawrence has long been considered one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the nation, so it should come as no surprise that the institution was ranked so highly on this list,” said Jerry Murphy, Executive Director of the New North, Inc. “Combined with strong showings from St. Norbert College and Ripon College, this list has demonstrated that for a world class education, the New North is an ideal place to be.”

St. Norbert College was ranked 152nd, and Ripon College was ranked 195th on the list. Three of the top five performing schools on the list are located in the New North.

Forbes examined a number of criteria in determining their rankings, including:

* Amount of enjoyment students get out of their classes

* Students’ success after graduation

* Amount of debt incurred while in school

* Success of students in distinguishing themselves academically
