MADISON – With time running out in the Legislative session, the Wisconsin Business Council on Wednesday encouraged the State Assembly to take action on the Wisconsin C.O.R.E. Jobs Act, which promises to help stimulate Wisconsin’s economy and create new jobs.

The “Connecting Opportunity, Research, and Entrepreneurship” Jobs Act, announced in November of last year, is a package of eighteen different economic development measures designed to develop Wisconsin’s workforce and encourage job creation.

“The C.O.R.E. Jobs Act offers a great deal of potential for stimulating Wisconsin’s economy and providing incentives for companies to grow and create new jobs,” said Phillip Prange, President and CEO of the Wisconsin Business Council. “The State Assembly has the opportunity to ensure Wisconsin is well positioned to capitalize during the next business cycle and beyond.”

Among the provisions in the bill are an expansion of Accelerate WI, which would improve access to venture capital and provide incentives for angel investors, additional funding for education and workforce training grants, and other proposals that would make small business development and expansion easier throughout the state.

The C.O.R.E. Jobs Act was passed overwhelmingly with a bipartisan vote of 32-1 by the State Senate of January 21.
