Foley donates attorney fees recovered in pro bono case to support provision of civil legal services for people in need

Milwaukee – Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc. announced today that it is receiving a $10,000 donation from Foley & Lardner LLP in Milwaukee. The donation is the result of attorney fees recovered in a case won by Foley attorney David N. Farwell on behalf of a Legal Action client.

“We are pleased to support Legal Action of Wisconsin in its efforts to provide legal representation to individuals in need who may not otherwise have access to our legal system,” said Nancy J. Sennett, managing partner of Foley’s Milwaukee office. “At Foley, we are deeply committed to pro bono service and proud to have achieved great results on behalf of the underserved. This donation is one of many examples of our ongoing commitment to community service.”

Legal Action of Wisconsin’s Milwaukee Office provides free legal services in a variety of civil legal matters to eligible applicants residing in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Legal Action’s Milwaukee Office is also home to the SeniorLAW project, which serves people 60 and over, and the Road to Opportunity Project, which resolves civil legal problems that are barriers to employment, such as the recovery of a valid driver’s license.

Local attorneys provide pro bono legal services to supplement the work of Legal Action of Wisconsin’s staff attorneys and paralegals. Legal Action uses donations to offset the court costs and other expenses that volunteer attorneys may incur during the course of their representation.

“Foley & Lardner has always been a mainstay of our efforts to make equal justice a reality for our clients,” said Pat Risser, attorney-coordinator for Legal Action of Wisconsin’s Volunteer Lawyers Project. “We truly appreciate the time and services contributed by Foley’s attorneys, as well as their generous financial support, all of which help Legal Action to help others in this community.”

Legal Action of Wisconsin helps low-income people solve their most critical civil legal problems. Legal Action has six offices, Green Bay, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Oshkosh and Racine, serving poor people in 39 southern Wisconsin counties. All of Legal Action’s services are free to eligible people in matters involving family law, consumer law, housing law and public benefits.
