Researchers in Central and Northern Wisconsin will get a leg up on opportunities in the region thanks to an upcoming summit focused on research facilities and networking to be held at Treehaven, a University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point residential natural resources education and conference facility located between Rhinelander and Tomahawk, on Thursday, March 4.

The third annual Northwoods Research Summit, organized by UW-Extension in Oneida County, will focus on the number of research facilities that currently exist in the northern county area, to demonstrate that the area might well be fertile ground for additional research facilities, to create a professional networking opportunity for current area researchers, and to learn about new technologies which could link and strengthen the current business clusters in the region.

Gerry Ring, chair and professor of paper science and engineering at UWSP, will give a presentation on “The Mission and Direction of the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology.” John Duplissis, forestry outreach specialist at UWSP, and Kevin Burns, Treehaven ecologist, will lead a session on “Sustainable Forestry Incentives and Certifications,” and Corky McReynolds, director of Treehaven, will give a presentation on “Creating Our Open-Space Sessions.”

The public is invited and the entire workshop, materials, continental breakfast and lunch are all available for a $10 registration fee. For more information contact the UW-Extension Oneida County office at 715-365-2750 or visit http://www.uwex.edu/ces/cty/oneida/index.html.
