The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point spring colloquium series on renewable wood resources for energy continues with a lecture by two representatives of Domtar Paper Corporation on Wednesday, March 3.

Jeff Plunkett and Jim Freiberg of Domtar will present “Domtar / WE Energies Cogeneration Biomass Plant Project” at 4 p.m. in Room 120 of the Trainer Natural Resources Building. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Freiberg will provide an introduction to the Rothschild mill and how WE Energies and Domtar first joined together to plan this biomass plant project. In addition, he will talk about the energy needs of the mill, energy output of the proposed biomass plant, equipment selection and benefits of the project to Domtar.

Plunkett will focus on how Domtar plans to supply the proposed WE Energies/ Domtar Biomass Cogeneration Boiler with fuel and will discuss material availability, receiving and handling, along with general procurement strategies.

Freiberg, pulp and utilities unit leader for Domtar Paper the past seven years, has worked for over 30 years in the pulp and paper industry with the Weyerhaeuser Company, now Domtar Paper. He is currently on special assignment for the development of the Biomass Power Plant Project at Rothschild. Freiberg works closely with WE Energies on operational situations, business agreements and cost details.

Plunkett has worked for the Domtar Paper Mill (formerly Weyerhaeuser) for 20 years and has served as Domtar’s fiber procurement manager for the past eight years. His major responsibility is to procure the pulpwood, dried pulp and woody biomass for the facility. Previously he worked in production management and taught problem solving skills and group dynamics.

The series, co-sponsored by the College of Natural Resources and the biology department in the College of Letters and Science, is coordinated by John DuPlissis, forestry outreach specialist, 715-346-4128.
