(MADISON, Wis.)—A study conducted by the Center for Climate Strategies showed that more than 16,000 full-time jobs will be created as a result of the proposed Clean Energy Jobs Act, the coalition Clean, Responsible Energy for Wisconsin’s Economy (CREWE) announced today.

The Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization, along with researchers from Michigan State University and the University of Southern California, determined that 3,799 of the 16,221 jobs will be realized in the first five years of the bill’s enactment, with the rest coming by 2025.

“This report confirms what CREWE has been saying all along—that protecting the environment would have added economic benefits such as job creation for our state,” Thad Nation, executive director of CREWE, said. “It’s essential that legislators in Madison come to a consensus on the Clean Energy Jobs Act and get a bill passed before the end of the session to ensure Wisconsin has an opportunity to capitalize on this economic opportunity.”

Among the industries that will benefit from the passing of the bill (AB 659) are construction and agriculture, the study found. To view this report, please visit http://www.climatestrategies.us/ewebeditpro/items/O25F22680.pdf.

CREWE’s membership consists of CleanPower, Alliant Energy, EcoEnergy, Johnson Controls, Xcel Energy, C5•6 Technologies, Axley Brynelson, Madison Gas and Electric, Orion Energy Systems, Forest County Potawatomi Community, Wisconsin Energy Corp., Poblocki Sign Company, Emerging Energies of Wisconsin, MillerCoors, American Transmission Co., WPPI Energy, DTE Energy Services, Kranz, Inc. and Greenwood Fuels.
