$108,000 in Funding Will Create and Retain More Than 80 Jobs

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced that NELA Ternes Register Group, Inc. will be moving its operations from Minnesota to River Falls, thanks to $108,000 in new economic development tax credits from the Department of Commerce. Commerce Secretary Richard J. Leinenkugel made the announcement on behalf of the Governor at the company’s River Falls facility.

“This announcement is further evidence that Wisconsin has some of the strongest economic development tools in the country,” Governor Doyle said. “I am proud to welcome NELA Ternes Register Group to our state, and we will continue to work hard to make sure companies know that Wisconsin is definitely open for business.”

“We are very thankful to the State of Wisconsin, the Governor and all the parties that made these economic development tax credits possible,” said David Klein, President of NELA Ternes Register Group. “We are very happy to have located in River Falls, a great community that will provide a great environment in which to grow a business.”

In his State of the State Address Tuesday, Governor Doyle laid out plans to build Wisconsin’s economy and create new jobs, including calling for the passage of the Wisconsin CORE Jobs Act, which builds on successful manufacturing, research and development, and worker training programs. The budget the Governor signed last year enacted the most powerful economic development tools in the country to help manufacturers create and retain jobs. In just the past year, businesses such as Mercury Marine, Republic Airways, the Herman Miller company and Enzymatic Therapy consolidated operations in Wisconsin, retaining and adding hundreds of jobs.

Germany-based NELA is the largest register and plate automation company in the printing industry. Register systems include in-line punching and bending systems for newspaper and commercial printing, plate automation, and plate transportation systems.

The $1.85 million project includes the remodeling of the former 53,000-square-foot Hals Millwork facility in River Falls to accommodate the company’s move from Minnesota. The project is expected to create 20 jobs in Wisconsin in addition to retaining the 62 positions that were moved from Minnesota to Wisconsin.
