MADISON, Wis. (June 2, 2004) – Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC), a nonprofit organization and national leader in designing and implementing energy efficiency programs has been awarded the State Department of Administration contract for Focus on Energy’s business programs.  Based in Madison, WECC currently oversees the residential and renewable programs of Focus on Energy, Wisconsin’s statewide energy efficiency and renewable energy initiative.

Under the new contract, WECC will assume responsibility on July 1 for the administration of programs in four different sectors throughout Wisconsin’s business community.  The sectors include industrial, agriculture and rural communities, commercial and schools and government.

“For almost 25 years, WECC has been dedicated to promoting sound energy policy, and designing and delivering innovative energy efficiency services for consumers in Wisconsin and throughout North America.  This contract allows us to help businesses here in Wisconsin increase their competitiveness and improve their bottom line through energy efficient products and services,” said Janet Brandt, WECC executive director.  “To that end, we are happy to have been awarded this contract and look forward to administering the business programs portion of Focus on Energy.”

Since its inception in July 2001, nearly 3,000 Wisconsin businesses have reduced their annual energy expenses by a total of nearly $15 million, thanks to energy efficiency improvements made with the help of Focus on Energy.  Over their lifetime, these improvements will save state businesses $120.6 million (in today’s dollars) in energy costs.
