Green Bay, WI – The pace is picking up for registration and fundraising for the 18th annual PetWalk benefitting Bay Area Humane Society. PetWalk is a non-competitive 3-mile walk from the shelter at 1830 Radisson Street, through the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, and back.

This year, participants can register ahead of time online at BayAreaHumaneSociety.org . Instead of a registration fee, participants will find a great list of incentives they can receive for meeting their fundraising goals. The rewards start at $75 with a t-shirt and bandana, and accumulate as their donations increase all the way up to a digital flat-panel TV!

Hundreds of pets and people take part in the walk that starts at 9:00 a.m. It’s not just for dogs – all sorts of well-behaved pets and people without pets are welcome. In fact, for the last two years Harley the cat, who comes to the event on a leash, has won the “best costume” contest!

“I’m really excited about being able to present more awards to the people who do an amazing job of collecting donations for the animals,” said Lisa Kay Peters, Development Director for the Shelter. Peters continued, “There is quite a competition going, and many of the stories on their personal fundraising web pages bring tears and smiles. It’s great to see people rallying for all the pets who aren’t as lucky as their own.”

Star 98 hosts the day for a fun morning with lots of family activities including:

* Microchip Clinic: Electronic identification for your dog or cat for just $20

* Brown County Sherriff K9 Unit Demonstration

* Agility Demonstration and Q&A with Maya, shelter dog and Agility Champ!

* Unveiling of BAHS logo design contest winner

* Pet contests including “Best Costume”

* Face painting, pet games, shopping, and learning at sponsor tables

* “Ask a Vet” with Dr. Michelle Rider

* And more!

Because Bay Area Humane Society does not receive funding from government or national animal welfare organizations, PetWalk is a critical fundraiser that helps cover the costs of providing care, protection and placement for thousands of lost and abandoned animals in our area.
