DDN provides giving opportunity; nearly 300 encouraged to take part in donation effort

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. – Jan. 20, 2009 – Embracing the idea that the holidays are the time for sharing and supporting those less fortunate, the team at DDN decided to do something different this holiday season.

Instead of sending gifts to clients and other business associates, DDN mailed out 285 gift cards valued at $50 each. The cards were valid for use at Charity Choice (http://www.charitygiftcertificates.org). At the website, visitors make the donations of their choice from a list of more than 100 charities.

“Just as DDN is committed to ‘Propelling Life Science,’ our charitable effort theme was ‘Propel: Others,’ with a goal of spreading the seeds of opportunity and hope,” DDN President Ross Bjella said. “This is the first time DDN has initiated such a holiday program, and the reaction we received was unprecedented and overwhelmingly positive.”

Reaction from recipients included at least one company’s decision to implement its own similar program for employees in response to the DDN effort. Another called it the most meaningful gift he’s received in his professional career.

DDN’s charitable efforts continue to expand in 2009. For example, for the first time this year, the DDN Employee Volunteer Program will allow staff members to take one paid day off every year to volunteer for a charitable organization.

DDN’s other local charitable events have enjoyed the generous support of DDN employees, including a recent food drive for the House of Peace in Milwaukee, and an annual Toys for Tots drive. Bjella also noted the charitable giving of DDN’s parent company, The F. Dohmen Co., which donated $1.5 million through its charitable foundation in 2008 in recognition of its 150th anniversary. The F. Dohmen Company Foundation will continue to earmark a portion of company profits for charitable endeavors in the years to come.

“The F. Dohmen Co. leads by example, and DDN shares that commitment to helping provide healthcare for all while giving back to the community whenever possible,” Bjella noted. “At a time when many, including charitable organizations, are struggling in a difficult economy, we appreciate the chance to make a contribution toward affecting positive change.”
