MADISON—Ag Day at the Capitol will be March 11 at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison. Ag Day at the Capitol is the largest gathering of farmers from across the state representing a variety of farm commodities groups to learn more about state issues, and meet with their elected officials. Several hundred farmers regularly attend Ag Day at the Capitol.

The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation said Ag Day at the Capitol will include discussions on the state budget, and upcoming agricultural and environmental issues.

“The difference this day makes for agriculture is tremendous,” said Bill Bruins, president of the Farm Bureau. “By having farmers from every major farm group and commodity in the state taking part, our legislative leaders have no doubt about the needs and opportunities for a growing agricultural sector in Wisconsin.”

Registration opens at 11:30 a.m., while the Ag Day at the Capitol briefing begins at 12:30 p.m. with a briefing on state issues. Several key legislative leaders will be invited to address farmers.

At 3 p.m. farmers will walk to the Capitol and meet with their representatives to lobby on issues favorable for Wisconsin farmers. A buffet dinner will be held starting at 5 p.m. at the Monona Terrace.

Cosponsors of the event are: Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, National Farmers Organization, Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association, Wisconsin Pork Association, Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association, Wisconsin Corn Growers Association, Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association, Wisconsin Soybean Association, Dairy Business Association, Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Veal Growers Association, Wisconsin Horse Council, Wisconsin Women for Agriculture, and The Country Today newspaper.

Farmers can register by calling the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation at 1-800-261-3276. The cost is $15. The registration deadline is February 27. Late registrations will cost $20. Rural Mutual Insurance Company and GROWMARK are major sponsors of the event.
