WisBusiness: State Tourism Chief Says High Gas Prices Shouldn’t Affect Summer Travel

Gasoline prices may be high, but that shouldn’t affect visits to Wisconsin this summer, the state’s new Department of Tourism secretary said at a luncheon sponsored by WisBusiness.com, Madison Magazine and the Madison Club on Monday June 18.

Kelli Trumble, who has been at her post just four months, said surveys indicate travelers pay little attention gas prices when considering a vacation in Wisconsin.

“We don’t see a decline in travel with gas prices going up,” said Trumble, who argued that Wisconsin is considered one of the best vacation values in the United States.

However, she added, she’ll be interested to see if travelers spend less money when they get to Wisconsin on meals, attractions and other amenities because of the high cost of gasoline, food and other everyday expenses.
