Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin:†Major study ranks Community Memorial Hospital first among nationís highest complex teaching medical centers
Milwaukee, Wis. (Oct. 8, 2018) — Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Community Memorial Hospital ranked No. 1 among the nation’s top complex teaching medical centers, according to a newly released annual study by Vizient, an alliance of United States academic medical centers and hospitals.
Community Memorial Hospital, Menomonee Falls, received a Bernard A. Birnbaum Quality Leadership Award, ranking first among 100 complex teaching medical centers participating in Vizient’s annual Quality and Accountability Study. While Community Memorial Hospital has been recognized by Vizient in the past, this year marks the hospital’s first award in the new complex teaching medical center category.
“This award underscores the growing capabilities of Community Memorial Hospital in the Froedtert & MCW academic health network, from providing highly specialized treatment options to training future doctors in our family medicine residency program,” said Teri Lux, president of Community Memorial Hospital. “Of all the health care quality rankings out there, Vizient is our health network’s ‘true north’ because it evaluates all care rather than just a certain subset of patients or conditions, and stringently compares us to peer organizations in areas that truly make a difference in improving health care quality.”
The 2018 Vizient study found that patients at Community Memorial Hospital have a higher likelihood of surviving, avoiding complications, receiving reliable care regardless of condition or personal status, and communicating effectively with physicians and staff than they would at 100 other teaching hospitals in the nation, including five in Wisconsin. Other Wisconsin hospitals participating in this category were Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton, ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Neenah and Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
The annual Vizient Quality and Accountability Study assesses performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of patient care activities. The study criteria reflect the national Institute of Medicine’s six domains of care: safety, timeliness, effectiveness, efficiency, equity and patient-centeredness.
