BLS Data: Under Gov. Walker, Wisconsin Adds Private Sector Jobs for 27th Straight Quarter on Year over Year Basis
Latest quarterly data shows Wisconsin ranked in the top half of states for number of private sector jobs added, top 10 for number of manufacturing jobs added
MADISON – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Allen released the following statement on today’s Quarterly Census of Employment and Wage (QCEW) data release by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which covered the third quarter of 2017:
“Wisconsin’s economic momentum is undeniable. For the 27th straight quarter, Wisconsin added thousands of private sector jobs on a year over year basis, and sectors like Construction and Manufacturing added thousands of jobs and were responsible for the majority of Wisconsin’s private sector job gains,” Secretary Allen said. “Today’s release builds on the near record-setting momentum from 2017, and at DWD we stand ready to assist all job-seekers in gaining the skills needed to acquire good-paying, family-supporting careers.”
Other indicators of the state of Wisconsin’s economy include:
- Initial UI claims ended 2017 at their lowest level in the last 30 years.
- Continuing unemployment claims ended 2017 at their lowest level since 1973.
- Moody’s investor Service recently upgraded the state’s credit rating, nothing that “(T)he stable outlook reflects the expectation that the state will experience moderate economic growth and will continue its prudent fiscal management practices.”
