Madison – Yesterday, nearly 1,500 job seekers attended the Dane County Job Fair at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The Job Fair was hosted by the Dane County Job Center, in partnership with the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and the South Central Workforce Development Board (SCWDB) and featured over 150 registered employers with job openings in a variety of positions from entry level to management. The Greater Madison Area Society of Human Resource Management (GMA SHRM) also volunteered to assist job seekers in preparing for the event.

“With one of the lowest unemployment rates in Wisconsin, Dane County area employers are in need of workers,” Secretary Ray Allen said. “Thanks to the excellent work of our DWD staff, our partners at the SCWDB and the Dane County Job Center as well as GMA SHRM and other collaborators, yesterday’s Job Fair exceeded expectation in providing job seekers access to myriad employers looking for a variety of skill-sets.”

Job fairs are valuable hiring events that enable employers to scout for talent and provide job seekers with direct access to hiring managers.

Michele Thoren, HR Manager for Cintas Corporation said, “Our number one asset at Cintas is our people, so we are here to find more great people. The Job Center has been a great connection to us for people that are looking for employment as well as for training and development. Today’s job fair is an opportunity to connect with people in the community that are looking for employment and will help us fill positions that we have open.”

Admission was free for the 1,460 job seekers who attended the event.  All individuals seeking employment opportunities were encouraged to dress for success, bring resume copies for distribution, and be prepared for possible onsite interviews.  Over 125 jobseekers came prior to the event to take advantage of the jobseeker prep area  where they could have an expert review their resume, perform mock interviews and talk with an Employment & Training Specialist or Human Resource Professional.

Last year, the Dane County Job Fair saw 1,200 job seekers.

There are currently 98,712 job openings on JobCenterofWisconsin.com.
