UW-Madison: Graduate programs ranked high by U.S. News

MADISON – UW-Madison graduate programs are ranked among the nation’s best in the 2018 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools.”

“The unwavering commitment by our faculty to their disciplines and their graduate students is reflected by these rankings,” says William Karpus, dean of UW-Madison’s Graduate School. “The continued strong position in the rankings for a large number of our graduate education programs demonstrates the prominence of our faculty in terms of research and scholarship and our commitment to educate the next generation of thought leaders.”

The UW-Madison programs ranked this year are:

-Business: 34th for top MBA program; 33rd for part-time MBA program.

-Education: 3rd  overall. Ranked specialties include administration and supervision (2nd), counseling and personnel services (4th), curriculum and instruction (1st), education policy (4th), educational psychology (1st), elementary education (4th), secondary education (3rd) and special education (7th).

-Engineering: 18th overall. Ranked specialties include chemical engineering (6th), computer engineering (9th), industrial/manufacturing/systems engineering (8th) and nuclear engineering (3rd).

-Economics: 12th overall.

-English: 20th overall.

-History: 9th overall. Ranked specialties include Latin American history (2nd) and modern U.S. history (5th). 

-Law School: 30th overall.

-Library and Information Studies: Tied for 14th overall. Ranked specialties include archives and preservation (10th) and services for youth and children (7th).

-Medicine: 28th in research and 14th for primary care. Ranked specialties include family medicine (7th).

-Nursing: 26th overall for schools with a doctor of nursing practice program.

-Political Science: 15th overall.

-Psychology: 13th overall.

-Sociology: 6th overall. Ranked specialties include social stratification (1st) and sociology of population (2nd).
