MILWAUKEE (February 20, 2017) — To diversify and engage current and potential vendors, Milwaukee Public Schools will host its 1st Annual Business Symposium for contractors and vendors from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 23 at ManpowerGroup World Headquarters, 100 Manpower Place, Milwaukee, 53212.

The event is designed to help MPS diversify its contractor and vendor base by introducing businesses to the district’s procurement process and by providing information and support. The event is sponsored by MPS Contract Compliance Services, Facility and Maintenance Services and Procurement and Risk Management.

“MPS is committed to increasing opportunities for certified minority- and women-owned firms as well as noncertified firms,” stated Regina Flores, supervisor of Contract Compliance Services. “We felt it would be valuable for prospective contractors and vendors to come to one location and learn about ways they can work with MPS.”

A series of workshops will provide hands-on techniques for working with the district. Topics include: understanding the district’s contracting process; ways that companies can grow capacity; and how to become a certified business enterprise.

A special business matchmaking session will connect service-provider businesses with district departments that have historically sought those services.

“Doing business with MPS is good business for Milwaukee,” Flores explained. “When businesses have the opportunity to grow, they create jobs that strengthen our community and provide jobs for our young people.”
