Madison – In response to Governor Walker’s State of the State address, the following statement may be attributed to the Wisconsin state director of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Bill G. Smith:

The small business community echoes the Governor’s sentiment that the state of our state is indeed strong. Beginning the year with yet another surplus is a true testament to the difficult work that the was done in Madison just a few short years ago. Since then, we have seen a dramatic reduction in taxes coupled with an increase in jobs and we could not be more proud to see Governor Walker focused on continuing this trend through tax cuts and infrastructure improvements.

Enhancing our transportation infrastructure as well as increasing broad band access throughout the state will increase interstate competition and further strengthen our economy. We applaud the Governor for his willingness to do both while continuing to pledge there will be no new taxes.

Workforce development is no doubt a fundamental step towards continuing to strengthen Wisconsin’s economy and the small business community resoundingly supports the Governor’s job training programs. When a small business owner can spend less time training new employees, they are more likely to hire additional people. The program is just one of the many reasons that our state is often ranked as one of the best to do business.
