Menomonie – Golf enterprise management majors at University of Wisconsin-Stout,

including one who will be a sophomore this fall, continue to benefit from a statewide golf

event.

The GCOW Scholarship Fund Golf Outing, an 18-hole scramble format tournament, will be

held Monday, Sept. 19, at Door Creek Golf Course in Cottage Grove, near Madison. The

event is sponsored by Golf Course Owners of Wisconsin.

A portion of the proceeds help provide scholarships to golf management students at UW-

Stout and at Southwest Technical College, of Fennimore. Southwest Tech offers a golf

course management associate degree, with a bachelor’s degree-completion option at UW-

Stout.

The annual golf outing event is open to individuals and groups of golfers. Sign up at

www.gcow.org. For more information, contact Jeff Schwister, GCOW executive director, at

414-443- 3568 or jeffs@gcow.org.

Students from UW-Stout and Southwest Tech also will help run the event.

Since 2008 UW-Stout students have received GCOW scholarships seven times. The recipient

this fall will be Drew Ringelstetter, of Portage, a sophomore in the golf enterprise

management program. The scholarship is for $500.

“I am very grateful to receive a scholarship from GCOW. It will help me pay for my schooling

and shows that some of my hard work has paid off,” Ringelstetter said.

This summer, Ringelstetter has worked as an intern at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove,

Minn.

Students in UW-Stout’s GEM program are part of the School of Hospitality Leadership. They

take courses in all aspects of golf course management. The Bachelor of Science program is

endorsed by the National Golf Course Owners Association as well as GCOW.

“So far I love the GEM program,” Ringelstetter said. “The instructors know what they’re talking

about and are great people in general.”
