UW Carbone Cancer Center: Andy North & friends raise more than $1 million

Madison – Professional golfer Andy North and his friends raised $1,002,000 million for the UW Carbone Cancer Center at a dinner and golf tournament this week.

The figure includes auctioned items such as dinner with former Brewers great Robin Yount, tickets to see Wisconsin play LSU September 3 at Lambeau Field and Beyonce in concert July 2 in England. Over the past eight years, North and friends have raised over $8 million for the cancer center.

Two-time US Open champion Andy North is an analyst for ESPN. He’s also a survivor of skin cancer and prostate cancer, and committed to supporting the work of the UW Carbone Cancer Center, where he received treatment.

Golfers who participated at the eighth annual Andy North and Friends at Maple Bluff Country Club event included Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers; Olympic gold medalist speed skater Bonnie Blair; professional golfer and Golf Channel personality Billy Kratzert; sportscaster and Golf Channel play-by-play announcer Terry Gannon; newly named Badger basketball assistant coach (and former player) Joe Krabbenhoft; and former Badger men’s basketball players Frank Kaminsky, Jordan Taylor, Ben Brust, and Josh Gasser. Other Badger golfers included UW athletic director Barry Alvarez; former AD Pat Richter; former Badger and NFL wide receiver Al Toon, Wisconsin coaches Greg Gard (men’s basketball), Tony Granato (men’s hockey) and Jon Tsipis (women’s basketball) .

The Andy North and Friends event has helped support UW Carbone pilot research projects on topics ranging from a novel therapy for head and neck cancer, a prostate-cancer vaccine and a study of follow-up care for breast-cancer patients, among others.
