MADISON- UW Health’s Med Flight has begun service at its new satellite base located at the Iowa County Airport in Mineral Point.

“Response times to southwestern Wisconsin will be reduced by about 20 minutes and patients with traumatic and serious medical conditions will have quicker access to physicians and nurses,” said Frank Erdman, manager of UW Health critical-care transport. Med Flight provides a physician and a nurse on every flight.

The satellite base has one twin-engine EC-135 aircraft capable of flying 155 miles per hour. The aircraft has state-of-the-art navigational and safety equipment including terrain-avoidance systems, night-vision-goggle technology and instrument-flight rules capability to enhance operational safety and reliability.

On June 5 from 1 to 4 p.m., Med Flight will host a community-wide open house at the Iowa County Airport, 3151 State Road in Mineral Point. Community members will be able to see the aircraft, tour the 2000 square-foot space in the leased hangar and meet Med Flight crew members.

Med Flight, which is celebrating its 31st year, services patients throughout Wisconsin. When needed, Med Flight can respond to patient transport needs in Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota.
