Froedtert affiliating with heart care leader Cleveland Clinic

Froedtert Hospital President Cathy Buck says its new affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic is a validation of the hospital’s commitment to quality.

Cleveland Clinic, the nation’s top heart provider, chose Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin after a year of looking for a partner in the state. The affiliation, announced yesterday, makes them the Cleveland Clinic’s only affiliate in the upper Midwest. It will let the organizations share best practices and collaborate on research and quality efforts.

“I think it speaks to our culture,” Buck said in an interview. “I think it speaks to the quality of care we deliver and our commitment to continuous improvement.”

The move was seen as a way to boost Froedtert’s cardiovascular offerings as it competes with Aurora St. Luke’s in Milwaukee. But Buck said the affiliation was more about Froedtert’s “big appetite for continuous improvement” in all of its services.

“We haven’t built any additional volume into any of what we’re doing here,” she said. “We want to bring all our programs to the top possible performance. This is our strategy for that.”
