UW Stout: Annual Red Cedar Watershed Conference scheduled March 10

The Red Cedar Watershed Conference, Land, Water and People Coming Together, will be held Thursday, March 10, at University of Wisconsin-Stout’s Memorial Student Center.Gabe Brown
The conference, in its fifth year, will provide a forum for farmers, resource managers, businesses, organizations and educators from throughout the area to share ideas and create partnerships for action.

Keynote speakers include:

· Gabe Brown, owner of Brown’s Ranch in Bismarck, N.D. He will present “Expanding on Regenerative Agriculture” from 8:40 to 9:40 a.m.

· Tim Davis, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Mich. He will present “Algae: the Why, the Risks and Our Role in Taming It” from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Tim Davis

· Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians and senior adviser on water to the United Nations. She will present “Blue Future, Protecting Water for People and the Planet Forever” from 3 to 4 p.m. Maude Barlow
Breakout sessions will be held throughout the day.

Nels Paulson, associate professor in social science, will serve on the panel, A River Runs Through Us: A Water Quality Strategy for the Land and Waters of the Red Cedar River Basin, during an afternoon breakout session. Paulson served as a mentor to students participating in LAKES, Linking Applied Knowledge in Environmental Sustainability, Research Experience for Undergraduates.

An exhibit area including 26 booths representing local businesses and organizations will be set up in the Great Hall and concourse area.

Registration is open, with an early bird discount of $10 through March 8.
The conference addresses issues in the Red Cedar River watershed, namely lakes Menomin and Tainter.
