SomeplaceBetter.org to provide employment opportunities to those
seeking a better job and quality of life
Major lakeshore employers announced a need for thousands of immediate direct, full-time
hires with hundreds more in the next few months. The announcement was made at a
press conference this morning in Sheboygan.
To connect job seekers to these opportunities, Sheboygan County Economic
Development Corporation (SCEDC) and Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce
(SCCC) revealed a new workforce attraction website, www.SomeplaceBetter.org, which
will connect workers from around the nation with jobs, housing, educational alternatives
for their children, and introduce them to the beauty and strong sense of community the
Sheboygan County area offers. The site is complemented by a print newcomer’s
welcome guide.
Executives from Sargento Foods Inc., Bemis Manufacturing Company, Kohler Co. and
Aurora Health Care met with members of the media to outline jobs available at their firms.
Over 35% of available jobs require 4-year education; however, many companies offer
entry level jobs covering all aspects of training investment and compensation levels for
full-time employment that can pay $35,000 per year. Sheboygan County, Wisconsin still
offers the American Dream.
Betsy Alles, Executive Director for the Sheboygan County Chamber stated, “Sheboygan
County has more job opportunities than available workforce – a bonus for anyone looking
for employment. Sheboygan County offers a better life balance with short commutes,
globally-focused companies, world class recreation, innovative, award-winning schools
and friendly, safe communities. We are truly Someplace Better.”
“If you’re underemployed or stuck in a cycle of temporary work, Sheboygan County firms
have full-time careers that offer opportunity for advancement. Only 5% of Sheboygan
County job postings are for temporary or seasonal workers.” noted SCEDC Director Dane
Checolinski.
The Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1914 as a resource for business, economic and
community development. Today, the Chamber serves over 900 member organizations and provides the Sheboygan
business community with marketing, development and networking opportunities. For more information on the Chamber
