APPLETON, WIS. (Sept. 22, 2015) – The Appleton Housing Authority (AHA) offers monthly Homebuyer Education classes designed to assist qualified first-time homebuyers in their journey to homeownership. Classes are offered in a two-part series and participants must attend both classes to complete the program.

Class sessions in Appleton are scheduled for Wednesdays, Oct. 7 and Oct. 14, from 6-9 p.m. at the AHA’s main office, 925 W. Northland Ave., Appleton.

Additional class sessions will be offered in Calumet County at the Chilton Public Library, 221 Park St. in Chilton on Wednesdays, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28, from 6-9 p.m.

Pre-registration is required, along with a course fee of $25 (per household) for text book and materials made payable to the AHA.

Upon completion of both classes in the series, perspective homebuyers may be eligible to receive down payment assistance and home rehabilitation funding, each in the form of a 0 % interest deferred payment loan. In conjunction with completing the Homebuyer Program, course participants must qualify for a first mortgage loan from a lender of their choice.

Additionally, homes must be located in Outagamie County or Calumet County in order to qualify for assistance. Household income must also be at or below 80% of the county median income. Assistance amounts will be determined by household income, the purchase price of the home, as well as other factors. Total Homebuyer Program support cannot exceed $20,000 (combined) for down payment/home rehabilitation assistance.

“Becoming a first-time homebuyer is an exciting time for the families we serve,” noted Kent Gross, AHA Homebuyer Program manager. “Since its start in 1993, over 450 families have succeeded in becoming first-time homeowners through our program.”
