MADISON – Forbes Magazine has ranked UW-Madison as one of its Top Colleges in the United States. The university placed 11th for the second year in a row among the best public colleges and 69th overall, up from 70th last year.

UW-Madison was also ranked 23rd in the list of Best Value Schools, up from 24th last year.

Forbes recognizes the university as one of the world’s leading research institutions, with over $1 billion in research expenditures each year, and notes that alumni and faculty have been awarded 18 Nobel and 26 Pulitzer prizes.

The rankings can be found in the recently launched “The Smarter College Guide,” Forbes’ first-ever guide book ranking the best colleges and universities in the U.S. The 360-page book expands on Forbes’ ranking of the top 650 schools, including lists featuring colleges offering tuition discounts, the most entrepreneurial schools and college profiles by state.

The rankings, compiled for Forbes by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, focus on outcomes. Twelve factors are used to calculate the rankings, each of which falls into one of five categories: student satisfaction, postgraduate success, student debt, graduation rate and academic success.
