Appleton Housing Authority Awarded Significant State Grant for Continued Operation of

Rental Assistance Program to Assist Homeless Individuals

APPLETON, WI (August 27, 2015) – The Appleton Housing Authority (AHA) has been awarded significant grant funding from the State of Wisconsin Department of Administration for the continuation of its Home Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program, which assists those experiencing homelessness in their transition to stable, safe affordable housing in Appleton and surrounding Fox Cities communities.

Through the new grant agreement, the AHA has received $159,840.00 for operations and administration of short term rental assistance funding up to an 18-month period to individuals who are homeless and disabled. All families participating in the TBRA program must be enrolled in case management services with a partner agency.

TBRA funding has been provided to the AHA since 2007, through Federal HOME funding from the State of Wisconsin, Division of Housing. Local AHA TBRA program partner agencies include the Salvation Army and the Housing Partnership.

As part of the program, participants receive a preference for the AHA’s Housing Choice Voucher program after successfully completing their goals toward self-sufficiency.

“The challenge of providing affordable housing for everyone in need in our community has never been greater,” noted Debra Dillenberg, AHA executive director. “Our agency is thrilled to be awarded continuing grant funds for the administration of our very successful TBRA program, which has assisted over 280 families in their transition from homelessness to finding a stable place of their own to call home,” Dillenberg said.
