Madison, Wis. – The Wisconsin State Council Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is pleased to offer human resources (HR) professionals two new competency-based certifications: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). The certifications are based on the SHRM Competency Model, which identifies eight behavioral competencies and one technical competency – HR knowledge or HR expertise that HR professionals need to advance their careers and improve effectiveness in the workplace.

To receive either certification, not only are HR competency and knowledge tested, but the application as well, to ensure HR professionals are able to demonstrate what they know and what they can do in a variety of situations. Both certifications are relevant on a worldwide level giving HR professionals recognition and flexibility to use their set of skills no matter where their career leads them.

“Earning a SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential makes the credential holder a recognized expert and leader in the HR field and a valuable asset to any organization,” said Susan Richardson, WI-SHRM certification director. “The certifications help give HR professionals and their organizations a competitive edge in today’s economy. These professional distinctions set individuals apart from colleagues, proving a high level of knowledge and skills.”

Eligibility requirements minimize barriers for participation, as they recognize diversity across the profession. Exam windows provide accessibility and flexibility, along with being affordable, making the certifications more attainable for HR professionals.
