Milwaukee, WI (July 8, 2015) – David A. Krutz, Managing Partner of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, announces that Partner Amy Schmidt Jones has been named Chair of the Firm’s Labor and Employment Relations Practice Group.

Krutz notes, “We are pleased to have Amy Schmidt Jones assume the role of Chair of one of Michael Best’s key practice areas. Her professional and personal growth has been tremendous throughout her career. She has earned the respect of her peers. We are confident that Amy will excel in this leadership position because of her judgment, hard work and ability to bring the best out of her team. Amy carries herself in an impressive manner, combining a passion for the law along with a commitment to client service.”

With nearly 20 years of experience, Jones represents management in all aspects of labor and employment law, with special emphasis in employment litigation, employment counseling, work-place investigations and employee/supervisor training. She has tried cases in state and federal court against private litigants and the EEOC and has argued appeals to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Wisconsin Supreme Court. As a testament to her judgment and skill as a practitioner, Jones has also served as the Firm’s attorney in the role of Assistant General Counsel and as a member of both Michael Best’s Compensation Committee and Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Krutz thanks outgoing chair José A. Olivieri for his eight years of service leading the practice and helping to grow it to what it is today. Olivieri accomplished this through the addition of new service areas, hiring and developing excellent attorneys, and always providing intelligent guidance and high responsiveness to both clients and those within Michael Best. Olivieri will continue to lead two of the Firm’s service areas within the practice: the Immigration and International Migration Team and the Higher Education Team.

Jones received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the New York University School of Law and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University. She currently holds the position of Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Milwaukee Ballet, and she is a member of the American Bar Association and Wisconsin State Bar. She has also been trained and certified in Yellow Belt Legal Lean Sigma®.
