Fundraiser for the Friends of Lakeshore State Park New Visitor and Education Center

Milwaukee, Wisc. – Monday, July 6, 2015 – NEWaukee is proud to announce the 5th Annual Urban Island Beach Party, a fundraiser for the Friends of Lakeshore State Park.

The event will take place on Lakeshore State Park on Saturday, August 1, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The Friends of Lakeshore State Park have begun a campaign to build a new Visitor and Education Center on the state park. The center will be a gateway to the Wisconsin State Park system and will provide an attractive and highly functional venue to support ongoing educational and social activities, like the Urban Island Beach Party, on the park. The proceeds of the Urban Island Beach Party will support this campaign’s launch.

“The center will set new standards for sustainability,” explains Bob Gosse, President of the Friends of Lakeshore State Park. “The building itself will become a teaching tool. Key project goals include net positive energy and water use, on-site energy generation, engineered wetland and on-site rainwater harvesting, and locally sourced construction materials. We look forward to the enthusiasm and support of the Urban Island Beach Party guests to help make this dream a reality.”

The Urban Island Beach Party features food trucks provided by Shepherd Express Street Eats; sunset yoga provided by omTown Yogis; a cabana beach lounge provided by Kohl’s Careers; the Kohl’s Color Wheels provided by the Milwaukee Art Museum; kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and canoe lessons provided by Milwaukee Kayak Company as well as live music and art creation.

“Of the hundreds of signature experiences NEWaukee creates for the city each year, the Urban Island Beach Party is by far our favorite,” said Angela Damiani, president of NEWaukee. “With the added focus of the new building campaign this year, our ability to draw Milwaukee’s attention of the only urban state park is more critical than ever.”

In anticipation of the program, NEWaukee will host a Find A Flamingo Contest in conjunction with Downtown Employee Appreciation Week hosted by Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 July 27 – July 31st. Throughout the week, hundreds of pink flamingos will be scattered throughout the city. Guests are encouraged to find one, bring it with them to the Urban Island Beach Party and will receive a free beer provided by Leinenkugel Brewing Company.

Event sponsors include: Associated Bank, Badger Meter, Kohl’s Careers, Leinenkugel Brewing Company, Majic Productions, Shepherd Express, 97.3 Radio Now and 88Nine Radio Milwaukee.

The Urban Island Beach Party is free and open to the public. For more information about the fundraiser, please visit: http://www.urbanislandparty.com.
