Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA) announced today rock ’n’ roll legends The Smithereens will perform for free in the street in front of THELMA Sunday, July 12.
The concert is set to begin at 2 pm with a cash bar and food available beginning at 1 pm.
The Smithereens is the band for anybody with an appreciation of New Jersey’s rock ’n’ roll history, and for anybody who cherishes the American underground rock scene that emerged in the 1980s.
A Girl Like You, Behind the Wall of Sleep, and Blood and Roses are just some of the hits by The Smithereens.
The Smithereens have collaborated with numerous musicians, both in the studio (Suzanne Vega and Belinda Carlisle) and live (Graham Parker and The Kinks). Inspired by The Byrds and The Beatles, The Smithereens have also influenced other musicians, most notably Kurt Cobain during the period he was writing Nevermind.
The Contemporary Wing will also be open for concert goers to view the exhibit, 45 North2. This group show features 18 of the state’s best artists who were in last year’s, 45 North. That exhibit was named runner-up for Best Museum Show by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In 45 North2, each of the 18 artists picked artists to be in the show. Viewing the art at THELMA is always free.
THELMA is located at 51 Sheboygan St., in the heart of Downtown Fond du Lac’s Arts and Entertainment District.
