Gail Buenger, J.D. Appointed Vice President of Operations for Scion Dental

Accomplished business leader will help distinguished dental benefit management company continue to drive innovation and growth

MEQUON, Wisc. – May 19, 2015 – With roughly 3 million children and nearly 18 million adults projected to gain dental benefits by 2018 as a result of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), health payers have found themselves scrambling to take advantage of this windfall. Many have turned to dental benefit management companies such as Scion Dental to help bridge the gaps after realizing they lack the technologies and expertise to deliver these benefits internally.

To ensure it will continue to offer those clients innovative products and grow its customer service capabilities, Scion Dental today announced it has appointed accomplished healthcare industry business leader Gail Buenger, J.D. to the position of vice president of operations. Buenger will use her considerable skills in tactical planning for strategy execution, change acceleration, systems thinking, and relationship development and management to help Scion Dental enhance its already stellar track record for innovation and continue its rapid growth trajectory.

“While most people seek the status quo, I thrive on change,” Buenger said. “Change creates opportunity; the transformation in dental benefits that has come about as a result of the ACA has created tremendous opportunities as well as risks for payers. Scion Dental has established itself as a leader in dental benefit management. By combining the knowledge of its experienced leadership and the effectiveness of sister company Wonderbox Technologies’ Enterprise System platform, we are able to dramatically improve transparency and reduce the cost of dental benefit delivery for government entities and commercial payers. I’m thrilled to join the team and to help lead Scion Dental into its next phase of growth.”

Buenger comes to Scion Dental from Navigant Consulting, Inc., a specialized, global professional services firm where she was director/chief integration officer of the Healthcare Division’s Revenue Cycle Solutions practice. Prior to joining Navigant, Buenger held various positions at Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Aurora Health Care between 1999 and 2012. Beginning as manager, patient account collections while attending law school, she rose through the ranks and held positions ranging from the system’s first director of corporate compliance, to regional vice president of operations, to finally serving as the first vice president of the organization’s office of project management.

“These are very unsettled times in healthcare, so we chose to add someone to our team who is not only comfortable with change, but also has experience helping rapidly-growing organizations flourish in it,” said John Schaak, president of Scion Dental. “Gail clearly has those credentials, and we are thrilled to have someone with her ability join our executive leadership team. She will help navigate new territories and enhance both internal- and customer-facing operations. We welcome Gail and look forward to her insights as we continue to raise the bar for ourselves when it comes to delivering innovative, timely solutions to our clients.”

A Milwaukee native, Buenger holds a juris doctorate degree from Marquette University Law School, as well as a certificate in alternative dispute resolution from the school. She earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Buenger is active in the community, having served as a member of the Ozaukee County Health & Human Services Board. She also serves as an officer and board member for The Guest House of Milwaukee, a non-profit that provides shelter, housing, education, employment and health-related services to the homeless in Milwaukee.
