This year the Kehl School of Dance celebrates its 135 Anniversary and the first time Sitting Ballet dancers are performing in the school’s Recital.

Kehl School Director Jenny Kehl Hiltbrand says, “Students and families are excited! After the eight week pilot in January of 2014, Sitting Ballet was added to the permanent class schedule in the fall of 2014 and dancers now know enough beginning ballet technique to perform in the Recital!”

The Kehl School Recitals will be at the Verona High School Theater from April 30-May 2. There will be two performances on May 2. The Sitting Ballet class will have a dress rehearsal on April 27 and will perform in the Friday night recital on May 1.

To our knowledge, the Kehl School is the only dance studio in Wisconsin offering Sitting Ballet classes. The program is based on a wheel chair ballet technique developed by Kitty Lunn and builds on Lunn’s model so dancers with many types of mobility concerns can also participate sitting on a furniture cube, chair, or stool. An article on the Sitting Ballet program has been submitted to an academic journal for publication.

Purchase tickets at the Kehl School of Dance, 5117 Verona Road Madison, WI 53711, (608) 819-6501, or at the Verona High School Theater the night of the show. General admission tickets are $12.
