JANESVILLE, WI – The SkillsUSA statewide welding competition will be held Saturday, April 25, at Blackhawk Technical College’s Advanced Manufacturing Training Center in Milton.
The winner of the event will advance to the national competition in Louisville, Ky., in June with a chance to qualify for a national team that will compete in an international, Olympic-style event.
“This is a major event within our industry,” said Mark Prosser, BTC welding instructor. “We’re thrilled the competition chose our new facility to host this event. It demonstrates how our new Advanced Manufacturing Training Center stands out in the state of Wisconsin as one of the premier facilities.”
Welders from eight Wisconsin Technical College System schools will be provided a pile of precut metal, a blueprint and a time limit to complete projects that will be judged in four different welding processes. Judging is provided by welding inspectors from area companies as well as independent inspectors.
The competition begins at 6 a.m. and runs through 5 p.m. in the Welding Lab (Room 212) and Fab Lab (Room 216) in BTC’s training center, 15 Plumb St., Milton, WI.
SkillsUSA, founded in 1965 and located in Leesburg, Va., aims to improve the quality of the American workforce through a structured program that includes technical and professional skills training. The organization has 13,000 school chapters in 54 states and serves more than 300,000 students and instructors annually.
