Cross Plains Area Chamber of Commerce: Village of Cross Plains is open for business during construction

The Village of Cross Plains is OPEN FOR BUSINESS during construction. Construction of U.S. Highway 14 began on March 30 and is scheduled to be completed in November.

The Village has undergone many projects in the last couple of years in preparation for this redevelopment. Several buildings have been removed from Main Street (Hwy. 14). Kwik Trip and Kalscheur Dodge Chrysler Ram relocated on Main Street to make room for the improved County Hwy. P & Hwy. 14 intersection and the bridge on County Hwy. P was reconstructed. The village underwent a re-meandering project of the Black Earth Creek and reconstructed the road along the creek now known as Mill Creek Parkway (formerly Lagoon Street) to enable customers to access Main Street Businesses during construction. New parking lots were built at the entry of Mill Creek Parkway & Wilson Street to support Main Street businesses.

After years of planning, Main Street from Market Street (Hwy. KP) to Westview Court will undergo a transformation this summer. By November, there will be a smooth street surface, new curbs, sidewalks, driveways, new decorative streetlights, benches, bike racks, and more. Main Street has been in need of repair for several years. In addition to the street being reconstructed, the aging water and sewer mains will be replaced, Brewery Creek Bridge will be improved, and there will be an improved storm sewer system.

“We’ve worked very hard in planning new amenities, signage, and various streetscape and aesthetic improvements,’’ Cross Plains Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amy Hansen said. “We look forward to the new design elements which will make our community more viable. We will have a better place to gather, shop, dine, and enjoy our beautiful community.’’

The detour route for traffic going through town is Market Street (County Hwy. KP), to Bourbon Road, to County Hwy. P (Church Street). To access Main Street businesses, which are all OPEN FOR BUSINESS, the route is Market Street (County Hwy. KP), to Park Street, to Ceasar, to Julius, to Valley, to Brewery. Access to Mill Creek Parkway (formerly known as Lagoon Street) will be provided for the duration of the project through either Wilson or Jovina Streets. Access to Main Street Business signage will provide direction along the route.

“With construction, comes inconveniences, detours, and obstacles,’’ Hansen said. “This construction will present many challenges for everyone in Cross Plains. We invite everyone to help support our area businesses by shopping local, and participating in the events and promotions that will be happening. More than ever our local businesses need your patronage. We are very excited to see the work completed and the redevelopment of our picturesque village.’’
