Dane Co. Farmers Market: Summer markets opening on the square

The Dane County Farmers’ Market (DCFM) opens its outdoor season on Saturday, April 18 from 6 am to 2 pm. The Capitol Square in downtown Madison provides a unique setting for the largest producer-only farmers’ market in the nation. The DCFM brings tradition, the highest quality Wisconsin products, and tens of thousands of visitors on any given Saturday to Madison.

Warm days and the green of Spring make everyone excited to be back on the Square. Enjoy fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, cheese, meat, poultry, fish, honey, maple syrup, nuts, preserves, fresh eggs, baked goods, plants for the garden, fresh flowers, and more.

The Wednesday market opens on April 22 from 8:30 am to 2 pm. Located in the 200 block of MLK, Jr. Blvd. between the Capitol and Monona Terrace, it is the perfect location for a mid-day break at the office. Buy fresh ingredients for weekday meals and treats for the office. Enjoy the sights and smells of the market.

The DCFM outdoor markets are open every Saturday and Wednesday through early November–RAIN OR SHINE!

Gift certificates are now available for purchase online at the DCFM website. Whether for visiting out-of-town friends, family in Madison, or for your UW student on campus, DCFM gift certificates are perfect for everyone.

“The Dane County Farmers’ Market is the largest supplier of locally produced groceries in the area, and in the nation,” Says Bill Lubing, DCFM manager.

“As a producer-only market, you are buying directly from the source. The person who grows, makes, or raises it is the one who sells it. And who better to ask when it comes to preparing ingredients than the one who produced it?” Lubing asks.

Shoppers stay up-to-date on what’s available at the market every week by subscribing to the DCFM email newsletter. The market’s web site (www.dcfm.org) provides a subscription link to the newsletter. You can also follow the DCFM on Facebook (www.facebook.com/DaneCoFM) and on Twitter (https://twitter.com/danecofm).

“Our newsletter keeps market regulars up-to-date on what’s available throughout the seasons,” Lubing notes. “For information during the market or during office hours when the market is not in session you can call us at 608-455-1999. We can tell you who’s at the market, what’s at the market, and how to get there.”

During Saturday markets, the information booth is located at the top of State St. near the corner of West Mifflin St. and North Carroll St. EBT services for those enrolled in the FoodShare Program are also found at the information booth.
