Mayor Paul Soglin joined children at South Madison Head Start for an obstacle course and nutrition activity as part of their “Spring Into Health and Wellness” event.
About 1,000 children in Dane and Green Counties enjoy Head Start learning programs overseen by the Dane County Parent Council (DCPC) headquartered in Madison, Wis.
Dane County Parent Council offers the following programs:

Children attending Dane County Parent Council Head Start programs make tremendous progress toward kindergarten readiness in all areas of development.
This year Dane County Parent Council has opened two new classrooms to extend services to an additional 34 low income families.
Dane County Parent Council has operated a Head Start center serving over 165 low income children on South Park St. for more than 20 years.
“Our community’s support of Head Start ensures the scholars of tomorrow will come not only from the affluent neighborhoods but also from the challenged neighborhoods,” said DCPC Board President Tom Buresh.
Mayor Soglin and other area leaders support increased funding for programs that give children from birth to age 5 enhanced learning opportunities to reduce the achievement gap.
