Contact: Rep. Tyler August 608-266-1190

MADISON…State Representative Tyler August (R-Lake Geneva) issued the following statement today regarding his vote in favor of an Assembly Organization Committee ballot introducing Right to Work legislation.

“As a member of Assembly Republican Leadership, I cast my vote in favor of introducing a Right to Work bill today. I fully support Right to Work legislation and will vote in favor of the bill when it comes to a vote on the Assembly floor.

I believe the Right to Work issue is about workplace freedom. Workers should have the freedom to choose whether or not it is in their family’s best interest to join a union. It is important to note that there is nothing in the bill that would ban or eliminate private sector unions.

Equally important, I believe Right to Work is also an economic issue. Passing this bill will improve our state’s business climate and attract jobs. Research has shown that businesses consider Right to Work as an important factor when locating, which is especially important with neighboring Iowa, Michigan, and Indiana all being Right to Work states.”
