Whether it’s the demand for locally grown food year-round, the desire to support local producers, or simply that DCFM members grow and raise the highest quality products this region has to offer, patrons are turning to this season’s market for their fresh grocery needs.

Located at the downtown Madison Senior Center (330 W. Mifflin Street), the DCFM is open Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon through April 11.

The late winter market offers an abundance of fresh, canned, dried, pickled, and preserved produce, jellies, jams, salsas, pesto, sunflower oil and vinaigrettes, honey and maple syrup. Traditional and unique meats, such as beef, bison, chicken, duck, elk, emu, goose, lamb, pork and venison, are available, as are fish (both fresh and smoked), world-class cheeses, bakery and handmade items like soaps and yarn.

“Participating members are telling us that ingredient sales are brisk at this year’s market, notes Market Manager Bill Lubing.

“We’re now offering free seasonal recipes at the market. Shoppers are pretty much clearing out the recipe rack each week. I’m sure that has something do to with it,” Lubing continues. “It’s clear that a lot of folks are making their meals this winter using locally raised ingredients purchased at the Dane County Farmers’ Market.”

The late winter indoor market boasts the increasingly popular ‘Taste of Market Breakfast’ series. Every Saturday, local up-and-coming and renowned chefs alike prepare a breakfast using DCFM ingredients, including harvested winter crops, meats, eggs and delicious savory and sweet preservations. So far this season, chefs from the Madison Club, Banzo, Layla’s Persian Food, Salvatore’s Tomato Pies and the Rooted Spoon have taken over the kitchen and created soulful, seasonal dishes. Come early, these breakfasts sell out fast!
